If there is a downside to what I do (talk to very talented, beautiful people), it’s that sometimes you’re sitting in between Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker, Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgård and you realize, wow, I must look like Golem next to them. But let’s not harp on my insecurities. Let’s instead focus on that genetically blessed quartet who star in the new film “Battleship,” opening May 18. I’m pleased to report that they’re a great bunch and absurdly entertaining to talk to.

You can catch my full interview with the gang on MTV.com following the premiere of an exclusive action scene from the film during “MTV First: Battleship” tonight beginning at 7:56 p.m. on MTV. Having already seen “Battleship,” I can tell you this clip really captures the mayhem in this blockbuster.

Anyway, what did I learn in my chat with this group? Well, no matter how freakishly gorgeous you might be, the grass is always greener on the other side. Rihanna revealed she’d like Brooklyn’s boobs (her words, not mine), and Brooklyn retorted that she’s envious of Rihanna’s um … well, her ass. As I said at the time, this was the best debate ever.

Movies don’t come much bigger than “Battleship.” Clearly if you have a “Transformers” itch for spectacle, this is the summer for you. But if there’s a side story worth talking about amid the ‘splosions, clearly it’s Rihanna. I spent a good portion of the sit-down with the cast talking to the pop-star-turned-actor and was duly impressed. Humble, self-effacing and quick to joke, count me in the Rihanna fan club from here on out. She’s got the right attitude and knows she has plenty to prove as she makes the move into acting (“Battleship” is her debut).

And if you’re not rooting for Taylor Kitsch, you are hereby my enemy. “John Carter” took a lot of knocks (most undeserved in my opinion), but this guy takes his gigs seriously (even if the films don’t look all that serious) from a distance.

I know what you’re thinking. They’re all gorgeous and awesome? Annoying, right?

Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna and Brooklyn Decker will hit MTV’s airwaves Monday, April 30, at 7:56 p.m. ET to premiere the exclusive clip, after which they will stick around for a meaty 30 minutes of Q&A on MTV.com.

Check out everything we’ve got on “Battleship.”

Lana Del Rey ‘Compelled’ By Britney Spears

Uncategorized | Monday April 30 2012 6:53 pm | Comments Off

Label boss Jimmy Iovine calls criticism ‘a drag.’

By Gil Kaufman

<P>To look at her, you'd think <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rey_lana_del/artist.jhtml"_blank">Lana Del Rey's</a> inspirations come mostly from 1940s detective movies and sepia-toned Hollywood pinups. But the "Video Games" singer told England's Magic 105.4 that one of her big fashion and music icons is Britney Spears.
</P><P>
</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lana Del Rey Says Her Lyrics 'Are Personal'" id="vid:724891.id:1677189" width="240" height="211"></div><p>
</P><P>
</P><P>"I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians but there is something about Britney that compelled me — the way she sings and just the way she looks," Del Rey said. And even though she's just released her major-label debut under the Del Rey name, she added that she's already kind of over music-making.
</P><P>
</P><P>"The thing that makes me happy now isn't really singing," she said. "Music was once the be-all and end-all, but when you lose everything you have over and over again, it's not so important."
</P><P>
</P><P>It might be a bit early for her to bail on the whole music thing though, since her album, <I>Born to Die</I>, topped the iTunes album charts in 14 countries this week, including the U.S., U.K., Italy, France, Germany, Ireland and Mexico.
</P><P>
</P><P>The chart triumph — and a possible #2 debut next week on the <I>Billboard</i> albums tally — came despite a rash of negative or <a href="/news/articles/1678050/lana-del-rey-album-born-to-die-reviews.jhtml">middling reviews</a>
of the album as well as the continuing fallout from her shaky <a href="/news/articles/1677389/lana-del-rey-snl.jhtml">"Saturday Night Live"</a>
 debut last month.
</P><P>
</P><P>The haterade has gotten her label boss, Interscope's Jimmy Iovine, to chime in on the flack his latest protégé has been taking. "It's a drag," Iovine told <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/lana-del-rey-backlash-jimmy-iovine-286378" target="_blank"><I>The Hollywood Reporter</I></a>. "Maybe this is a new sport. It's something we've never seen before. Or maybe it's [like] the Giants and the Jets." Del Rey herself told <I>Rolling Stone</I> that she thought she looked "beautiful" and sang "fine" on the show, saying that "that's just the way I perform, and my fans know that."
</P><P>
</P><P>Say what you want about Del Rey's looks, attitude and performance ability, but Iovine said there is one thing you can't mess with.
</P><P>
</P><P>Musically, he thinks <I>Die</I> is "really good. Great lyrics and great songs. I don't care what anybody says, 'Video Games' is a great song. When she sings that song, it moves me. It's how we signed her — she sang and it was beautiful. I think she's really talented. Period."</p>

‘Dark Shadows’ Sneak Peek Reveals Johnny Depp’s De-Fanging Plan

New featurette is dedicated to late star of original soap, Jonathan Frid.
By John Mitchell

With just two weeks left until the big release of “Dark Shadows,” Warner Bros. is stoking the coals of excitement with a new featurette that brings not only behind-the-scenes interviews and footage, but offers up an important new plot detail from the film.

“The legend of the vampire has been told for centuries, capturing the dark shadows of our imagination and inspiring filmmakers and actors to breathe new life into the undead,” a voice-over reminds us at the top of the clip. “But there’s never been a vampire like Barnabas Collins.”

Depp said the idea to do the film came naturally to him and Burton, who have worked together on eight films. “I’d always been sort of attracted to horror films and things like that, even as a very young kid,” Depp explains. “I said, ‘Tim, we should do a vampire movie together.’ ”

And when Johnny Depp and Tim Burton decide to do something, it has a way of getting done.

A large part of the featurette focuses on the history of vampires in movies and reminds us that one of cinema’s great vampires, Christopher Lee, is featured in “Shadows.”

“One of my favorite moments I’ve ever been able to experience in a film was I got to hypnotize Dracula; I got to hypnotize Christopher Lee,” Depp says. “He was, you know, the great Dracula.”

To get into character as Barnabas Collins, Depp didn’t stray far from the source material. “For Barnabas, everywhere I searched character-wise, I kept coming back to Jonathan Frid,” the actor explains. “He really did something beautiful with that character on the ‘Dark Shadows’ series back in the ’60s and early ’70s.”

Frid, who cameos in the film and is shown arriving at a party at Collinwood in the featurette, died earlier this month in his native Canada. The clip closes with an “In Memoriam” dedication to the classically trained actor, who maintained a close relationship with the show’s fans by appearing at “Shadows” conventions and readings as recently as 2011, before his health began to decline.

The clip features some great new scenes from the film, including a fun bit where Depp’s Barnabas seeks advice from Chloe Moretz’s Carolyn Stoddard on “the art of courting a woman of this time,” but importantly introduces a major plot twist that we wondered (all the way back in October!) whether Burton would include in his film: Barnabas’ attempt to de-fang himself with the help of Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter) and become mortal again to pursue a romantic relationship with Bella Heathcote’s Victoria Winters.

“If a man can become a monster, then a monster can become a man,” Barnabas says in a voice-over while Dr. Hoffman surveys large blood-filled beakers and Depp sits with IV lines running from him. It’s a story line carried over directly from both the original soap and its short-lived ’90s remake. (Indeed, this particular story line was the focus of NBC’s revival starring Ben Cross and Joanna Going.)

“By tapping into vampires, witches, ghosts, the reason they’re powerful is because we all kind of experience those feelings on some level,” Burton says of the film. “It’s something that remains in our popular culture because it’s strangely part of our everyday lives.”

Just two weeks to go, “Dark Shadows” fans! Are you excited for the flick? Let us know in the comments!

Britney Spears Would Be ‘Great Fit’ For ‘X Factor,’ Marcus Canty Says

Uncategorized | Monday April 30 2012 8:46 am | Comments Off

‘She would give me that pop I need,’ last season’s fourth-place finisher tells MTV News of rumored addition to judges’ table.

By Christina Garibaldi

<P>During his final appearance on <a href="/news/articles/1676110/x-factor-marcus-canty.jhtml">"The X Factor," Marcus Canty</a> promised his fans it was "not over" for him yet, and he was right. The fourth-place finisher, who wowed viewers with his energetic stage presence and smooth R&B style, recently signed to Epic Records and has released his debut single, "Won't Make a Fool Out of You."
</P><P>
</P><P>Yet at one time it seemed like we might never have heard his music at all. Before "X Factor" Canty tried but failed to get through the audition rounds for <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/topic/american_idol/">"American Idol."</a>
</P><P>
</P><P>"I tried 'American Idol.' I got in front of the judges, I sang my little heart out, but I guess I didn't make it," Canty revealed to MTV News. "I guess they didn't want me."
</P><P>
</P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:754173/cp~vid%3D754173%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A754173" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed>
</P><P>
</P><P>"Idol" may not have wanted Canty, but "The X Factor" did. With help from his mother, Canty reluctantly decided to step in front of the judges, hoping to get his chance to go to Hollywood.
</P><P>
</P><P>"The funny thing is that I didn't want to do 'X Factor' at first. I was just like, 'Man, I'm gonna do it myself,' then I look on the bill and I see L.A. Reid, and I'm like, 'Wait a minute, that's L.A. Reid!' " Canty said. "For so long I've been trying to get music to him. When it came that time, my mom was like, 'Look, you should just try it."
</P><P>
</P><P>With Reid as his mentor, Canty battled his way to a fourth-place finish with some show-stopping performances that gained him comparisons to Al Green and Bobby Brown.
</P><P>
</P><P>Canty also developed relationships with the other judges on the show, including former mentors <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">Paula Abdul</a> and <a href="/news/articles/1678186/nicole-scherzinger-steve-jones-leaving-x-factor.jhtml">Nicole Scherzinger</a>.
</P><P>
</P><P>"I actually was kind of surprised," Canty said of the departures of Abdul and Scherzinger. "I thought it was a lot of drama on the show with Paula and Nicole, but they were so nice."
</P><P>
</P><P>Canty was no stranger to drama himself. The R&B crooner found himself in the bottom two during several episodes, most notably edging out <a href="/news/articles/1680940/rachel-crow-simon-cowell.jhtml">Rachel Crow</a> in an emotional and <a href="/news/articles/1675936/x-factor-rachel-crow-elimination-reaction.jhtml">controversial finish</a>.
</P><P>
</P><P>"I feel like Paula was honest. I feel like Nicole was honest — even in certain situations on the show that they got into, with me and Rachel and at one point, me and Drew," Canty said. "If I was in that situation I probably wouldn't know what to do."
</P><P>
</P><P>With Scherzinger and Abdul out of the judges' seats, rumors have been swirling that pop star <a href="/news/articles/1680782/britney-spears-x-factor-judge-offer.jhtml">Britney Spears may fill</a> one of the vacant spots.
</P><P>
</P><P>"Oh wow, I haven't heard that one. Britney Spears, wow. That should be interesting," Canty said in response to the news. "Britney Spears can be my mentor because, first of all, I was the entertainer. I know she would give me that pop I need. That's definitely a great fit."</p>

Is Britney Spears Getting Closer To ‘X Factor’ Gig?

Uncategorized | Monday April 30 2012 5:21 am | Comments Off

‘I’m fascinated by her,’ Cowell says of singer, who’s rumored to be contender to join show.

By Jocelyn Vena

<P>There are several women's names currently being tossed around as potential judges for the upcoming season of "X Factor." Avril Lavigne, <a href="/news/articles/1679730/x-factor-new-judges-hosts.jhtml">Janet Jackson and Britney Spears</a> are the leading rumored contenders to replace <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul</a> for the show's completely revamped second season, which kicks off later this year.
</P><P>
</P><P>In a recent press call, Simon Cowell would not confirm who producers were talking to, but he did not deny that Jackson was on the table.
</P><P>
</P><P>"You can probably count on two girls," fellow judge L.A. Reid added. "That we can confirm."
</P><P>
</P><P>Cowell recently addressed the Britney buzz on Billy Bush's <a href="http://www.accesshollywood.com/billy-bush/simon-cowell-x-factor-would-be-a-walk-in-the-park-for-britney-spears_articletab_61327" target="_blank">radio show</a>, continuing to play coy about the chatter. "Well, I'm fascinated by her. The fact that she's still one of the most talked-about — not just pop stars, but people — in the world today means that you've got this star power. This girl's got resilience, and the fact that she's survived this and she's still hot, she's still having hit records and she's still controversial … there's a reason for that.
</P><P>
</P><P>"I would think that if she's managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, this is a walk in the park," he added, noting that he believes she would be a good judge.
</P><P>
</P><P>While Cowell seems to be dancing around the issue, British "X Factor" judge Louis Walsh may have let the cat out of the bag in an <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/2012/02/uk-x-factor-judge-confirms-talks-with-britney/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed" target="_blank">interview</a> on U.K. talk show "Craig Doyle Live." He shared that Spears was indeed talking to producers about possibly joining the show.
</P><P>
</P><P>"I know he is talking to Britney. I know he's definitely talking to Britney to do the American show. Absolutely true and maybe Janet Jackson," he said.
</P><P>
</P><P>In the end, Cowell summed up the current spate of rumors on that conference call. "There's a load of speculation, some true, some not true. It's true to say that a lot more people have entered the frame this year. We were waiting to see who was going to contact us before we actually contacted people," he said last week. "We're in that place right now, which is a good place to be in. We will meet a number of people over the next few weeks, mainly to explain to them that this is a big commitment when you do a show like this because of the mentoring aspect."</p>

Chris Cornell Filling In For Robert Plant On Led Zeppelin Tour? That’s News To Him

‘I have not been approached to fill in for Robert Plant on the Zeppelin tour, but that isn’t to say I won’t be,’ singer says.

</P><P>
</P><P><a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2008/10/13/another-led-zeppelin-rumor-almost-debunked/">According to Snider</a>, the rest of the band told Plant, " 'We're all rehearsed, we're ready to go. Here's a gazillion dollars on the table. If you don't do it, we're going out with this kid [Myles Kennedy].' "
</P><P>
</P><P>"And he can sing the sh– out of Zeppelin," Snider added. "They're going to hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, 'OK,' and step in."
</P><P>
</P><P>In a recent interview, Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought to take over for Plant. "We are trying out a couple of singers," he said. "We want to do it. It's sounding great, and we want to get on and get out there."
</P><P>
</P><P>But Jones insists that he, Page and Bonham aren't interested in finding a Plant clone. "It's got to be right," he said. "There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be onboard."
</P><P>
</P><P>Of course, even if Zeppelin were to approach him, Cornell might be too busy to take over vocals for the band. Cornell told MTV News last month that some of his fans might consider <i>Scream</i> something of a departure, but he doesn't see it that way.
</P><P>
</P><P>"It makes me happy that there's this perception that I have a group of fans that I'm now sort of throwing a curve at and what their reaction will be," he said. "But I've been in this situation so many times already. When I put out [1999's] <i>Euphoria Morning,</i> my main goal was to create an album that sounded like nothing I'd done in Soundgarden, and I did that. I also had that with Temple of the Dog, where I showed up with songs that weren't necessarily riff-based. And then, of course, the pairing of me and members of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rage_against_the_machine/artist.jhtml">Rage Against the Machine</a>Rage Against the Machine had everyone sort of speculating about what that would sound like.
</P><P>
</P><P>"It feels like I've done this so many times that when it's presented to me as being a departure, I feel that's a misconception," he added. "I feel like that's my theme at this point."</p>

"For the last fourteen months Atticus and I have been hard at work on David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,' " he wrote about the American version of the tale of pierced and punished hacker <a href="/news/articles/1655879/rooney-mara-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara)</a> and her muckraking journalist compatriot <a href="/news/articles/1667542/daniel-craig-rooney-mara-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig)</a>. Exclusive ‘Battleship’ Clip Premieres Monday On MTV!

Stars Rihanna, Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård and Brooklyn Decker will unveil clip during ‘MTV First’ at 7:56 p.m. ET Monday.

We still have a few more weeks to wait to find out which “Battleship” castmember utters the immortal phrase “You sunk my Battleship!” So in the meantime, we’re offering up the exclusive premiere of a very special new clip from the film, along with the stars themselves, for “MTV First: Battleship.”

Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna and Brooklyn Decker will hit MTV’s airwaves Monday, April 30, at 7:56 p.m. ET to premiere the exclusive clip, after which they will stick around for a meaty 30 minutes of Q&A on MTV.com hosted by MTV News’ Josh Horowitz. Fans can get in on the action immediately by submitting video or text questions via MTV.com or via Twitter (using @MTVNews, hashtag #MTVFirst or #AskBattleship). During “MTV First,” the four stars will also answer your Twitter questions and dish on the very latest news.

“Battleship” promises to be a true summer blockbuster in every way. It is an action-packed event movie with an A-list and very attractive cast.

“The movie is really the story of a younger brother (Kitsch) trying to grow up and be a man like [his older brother (Skarsgård)],” director Peter Berg told MTV News. “There just happens to be an alien invasion in the middle of it.”

The “Friday Night Lights” director also promised that despite the “Transformers” comparisons, his film is “completely different.”

“I think ‘Transformers’ is awesome,” Berg said. “I think [director Michael] Bay did an incredible job with that film and I think when you sit through 4 minutes of ‘Battleship,’ you’ll realize that they are two completely different experiences.

“Obviously, our big bosses who are concerned with making their money back have a vested interested in attaching themselves to other successful films. We don’t think about that; we think about making our own movie, and I’m pretty confident that whether you love ‘Battleship’ or not, the issue of comparison to other films is pretty irrelevant.”

The film hits theaters across the country May 18.

Don’t forget to join Taylor Kitsch, Rihanna, Alexander Skarsgård and Brooklyn Decker for “MTV First: Battleship” on Monday, April 30, at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV!

Check out everything we’ve got on “Battleship.”

The Wanted Out To Prove Boy Bands ‘Make Good Music’

‘If you like us despite it or because of it, then we’re happy,’ Jay McGuiness tells MTV News of boy-band label.

It’s not always easy being in a boy band. There are a lot of preconceptions for the five guys who choose to sing catchy pop tunes and dance in formation for a living.

Given that boy bands have come in and out of fashion once every decade for the last few years, it should come as no surprise that we are knee-deep in a brand-new boy-band bonanza. This one is being led by this generation’s ‘NSYNC and Backstreet Boys: One Direction and the Wanted.

When MTV News sat down with the Wanted to premiere their “Chasing the Sun” video, they chatted a bit about being labeled a “boy band.”

“Eventually, we were, like, over it,” Jay McGuiness explained. “If you like us despite it or because of it, then we’re happy.”

Well, something is working for the guys. Their lead U.S. single, “Glad You Came,” has topped the charts, and they are once again getting people dancing with “Chasing the Sun,” from their just-released debut U.S. EP. It’s a good time to be in a boy band, thanks to all the love out there for them. And it’s an even better time to be in the Wanted.

It seems that their success might have a lot to do with the way they’ve approached their boy-band career thus far. “We went out there and we’re like, ‘You know what? I think we can change people’s perspectives of the ’90s boy bands,’ ” Tom Parker explained. “And that was our aim: just to make good music.”

Voting in round two of MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands runs until noon ET on Monday, April 30. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite band made the cut, make sure you keep voting. Tune in to AMTV and MTV Hits for their boy-band video takeovers each day and make sure to spread the word on Twitter using the hashtag #BBB and like us on Facebook for updates!

Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Battle of the Boy Bands interactive bracket!

Usher Makes Fans ‘Scream’ With New Dance Single

Club track is second release from singer’s upcoming Looking for Myself.

With nine #1s, Usher is easily one of the most reliable hitmakers in the game, and he may have just found his next smash hit. The R&B superstar released his latest single, “Scream,” on Thursday (April 26), and it has chart-topper written all over it.

The Max Martin-produced banger finds Usher in familiar territory, singing the virtues of living for the moment — just as he did on 2010′s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love,” which was also helmed by Martin. With a pounding beat and a massive, swelling hook, the song returns Usher to the club after his recent foray into slow-jam territory with “Climax,” the Diplo-produced first single from his forthcoming Looking for Myself.

“I see you over there, so hypnotic Thinking ’bout what I do to that body/ I get you like ooh baby baby,” Ush sings. “Got no drink in my hand/ But I’m wasted/ Getting drunk off the thought of you naked/ I get you like ooh baby baby.”

In addition to his own new album, Usher also recently hit the studio with David Guetta to record a follow-up to their hugely successful collaboration “Without You.” Usher made a surprise appearance during Guetta’s set at Coachella on April 14.

“These are really big records that we’re working on right now,” Guetta told The Hollywood Reporter of his new track with Ush. “It’s really crazy.”

Head to our Newsroom blog to see why it’s time for an Usher greatest-hits album.

Looking for Myself is set for release on June 12 and is expected to be released in both standard and deluxe editions. The album is Usher’s follow-up to his 2010 smash Raymond v. Raymond, which produced the massive singles “OMG” and “There Goes My Baby.”

For his new record, Usher returned to work with many of his Raymond collaborators, including Rico Love and Jim Jonsin, as well as Diplo, Martin and Salaam Remi, who is best known for his work with Nas and the late Amy Winehouse.

Are you excited about Usher’s new album? Let us know in the comments below!

Captain America

Uncategorized | Thursday April 26 2012 7:23 am | Comments Off

Go see Captain America this weekend! Support our Colin!

I went to the premiere on Tuesday and it was the coolest thing ever. First, the movie is AMAZING and Chris Evans is a superstar. Second, there were so many damn people there it was insane. I have been to movie premieres in New York before and they were nothing like this. I mean, they closed down Hollywood Boulevard. I would’ve taken photos to show you, but the invite said to leave phones in the car. But here’s a photo of me in my cool Captain America 3D glasses:

(Sit down, stop jumping around, it’s an awesome picture, I know. And the quality is amazing. It’s not grainy or reddish… it’s perfect.) (No, it’s not.)

(And you can totally see the Captain America logo on the side of the glasses.) (No, you can’t.)

Anyway, Captain America is pulling a strong 71% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes right now so GO SEE IT! IT’S FANTASTIC!

Coldplay, Led Zeppelin Album Covers Featured On New British Stamps

Uncategorized | Thursday April 26 2012 4:53 am | Comments Off

Album art from Pink Floyd, Blur and David Bowie also included.

By James Montgomery

<P>On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.'s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years.
</P><P>
</P><P>The albums featured in the new series are the <a href="/music/artist/rolling_stones/artist.jhtml">Rolling Stones</a>' <i>Let It Bleed,</i> <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s <i>IV,</i> <a href="/music/artist/bowie_david/artist.jhtml">David Bowie</a>'s <i>The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars,</i> <a href="/music/artist/mike_oldfield/artist.jhtml">Mike Oldfield</a>'s <i>Tubular Bells,</i> <a href="/music/artist/clash/artist.jhtml">The Clash</a>'s <i>London Calling,</i> <a href="/music/artist/new_order/artist.jhtml">New Order</a>'s <i>Power, Corruption and Lies,</i> <a href="/music/artist/primal_scream/artist.jhtml">Primal Scream</a>'s <i>Screamadelica,</i> <a href="/music/artist/pink_floyd/artist.jhtml">Pink Floyd</a>'s <i>The Division Bell,</i> <a href="/music/artist/blur/artist.jhtml">Blur</a>'s <i>Parklife</i> and — the most recent album on to make the cut — <a href="/music/artist/coldplay/artist.jhtml">Coldplay</a>'s <i>A Rush of Blood to the Head.</i>
</P><P>
</P><P>Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.
</P><P>
</P><P>Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for <i>IV</i> — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery.
</P><P>
</P><P>"Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time."
</P><P>
</P><P>Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their <i>Rush of Blood</i> stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date."
</P><P>
</P><P>"We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."</p>

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Files Appeal

Murray will represent himself as he contests involuntary manslaughter conviction for which he faces up to four years in state prison.

</P><P>According to <a href="http://www.tmz.com/2011/12/02/conrad-murray-files-appeal-involuntary-manslaughter" target="_blank">TMZ</a>, Murray filed the petition in pro per, which means he has decided to forego hiring legal representation and represent himself. He reportedly listed "Men's Central Jail" and his booking number in the space on the appeal document where a lawyer would normally list a firm's name or contact information.

Ke$ha Out For Vengeance In Musical March Madness

Uncategorized | Wednesday April 25 2012 12:49 pm | Comments Off

‘I’m getting ready as we speak,’ she tells MTV News of this year’s tournament, tipping off Monday.

By James Montgomery

<P>Last year, based mainly on her attitude, the fact that she <a href="/news/articles/1644961/keha-tries-to-shock-the-world-at-casio-launch.jhtml">plays an AK-47 shaped guitar</a> and the presence of photos like <a href="http://resources2.news.com.au/images/2011/03/13/1226020/684522-ke-ha-drinks-blood.jpg" target="_blank">this</a>, Ke$ha was given an 11 seed in MTV's Musical March Madness tournament — and promptly <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/03/15/march-madness-u2-kesha-green-day-adam-lambert/">lost by a huge margin to U2</a> in the opening round.
</P><P>
</P><P><CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:747290/cp~vid%3D747290%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A747290" width="430" height="242" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER>
</P><P>
</P><P>Of course, she's spent the past 12 months fuming over that early exit, and now, she's going to get her shot at redemption. Not only is Ke$ha <i>back</i> in the 2012 MMM tournament — which kicks off Monday — but she's beefed up her rock credentials: working with the likes of <a href="http://www.billboard.com/news/alice-cooper-welcomes-ke-ha-to-his-nightmare-1005326082.story#/news/alice-cooper-welcomes-ke-ha-to-his-nightmare-1005326082.story" target="_blank">Alice Cooper</a>, channeling the <a href="/news/articles/1663946/kesha-new-album.jhtml">"sexiness" of '70s rock</a> on her new album, recording a (genuinely pretty great) <a href="/news/articles/1676260/kesha-bob-dylan-cover.jhtml">cover of Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright"</a> and spending time <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/keshasuxx/status/160937170826313728" target="_blank">snorting Tums</a> with Wayne Coyne.
</P><P>
</P><P>So, yeah, this year, she's ready to knock off the field of 63 other acts gunning for the MMM trophy — a brimming bracket that includes <a href="/news/articles/1661353/musical-march-madness-winner-green-day.jhtml">defending champions Green Day</LINK>, upstarts <link type="content" id="1680595">Fun.</a> and <a href="/news/articles/1678693/black-keys-kesha.jhtml">good pals the Black Keys</a>, to name just a few — and reign supreme. But just in case all that rock-and-roll prep work isn't enough to put her over the top, well, Ke$ha has another secret weapon at the ready: an incredibly toned pelvic floor.
</P><P>
</P><P>"I'm getting ready as we speak. I'm doing Kegels," she told MTV News, while throwing phantom punches at an unsuspecting cameraman. "Vote for me!"
</P><P>
</P><P><b>MTV's 2012 Musical March Madness tournament begins Monday, March 12, when we'll unveil the full field of 64 bands that will battle for this year's championship. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it will be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM — but get ready, it's gonna be a war.</b>

</P><P>The <i>Confessions</i> singer initially signed Justin along with his manager Scooter Braun, and he has since become a mentor to the pop star. So of course the 33-year-old Usher had to impart some b-day wisdom on his young homey. "Eighteen will give you an opportunity to do a little bit, not all, so we got a few more years before you can go all the way," he said, acknowledging the three years until JB turns 21 and is allowed to legally drink in the U.S. "Maybe I might even be able to sneak you into a club. Anyway dawg, happy birthday. I love you."
</P><P>
</P><P>Comedian Kevin Hart isn't buying all of Justin's birthday hype, though. "Whatever Justin Bieber is supposed to be doing at 18, he was doing at 15," he joked after sending his well wish.
</P><P>
</P><P>Platinum hitmakers RedFoo, B.o.B, Sean Kingston and Flo Rida all helped MTV News celebrate the occasion. Even <a href="/news/articles/1678337/justin-bieber-lil-wayne-studio-visit.jhtml">Lil Wayne, who was with Bieber</a> in the studio in February, sent a special message. "Happy Birthday, slime, the big one-eight. You in the club, slime," Weezy said, standing beside Young Money's Lil Chuckee.
</P><P>
</P><P>As far as birthday presents go, it's anybody's guess what his buddies will actually get Bieber. But Robin Thicke bypassed tradition and instead hit up the "Never Say Never" singer for a loan. "Send me some money, Justin. You got way too much," he said, laughing.
</P><P>
</P><P>But what do you get the young man who has everything? Sometimes all it takes is a few kind words. "Thank you to all the people that made the video," Bieber told MTV News. "It really brought a smile to my face."

Justin Bieber Spotted Kissing A Brunette On ‘Boyfriend’ Set

Singer kisses the hand of his female co-star on the L.A. set of upcoming music video.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> seems to be getting romantic in his video for "Boyfriend."
</P><P>
</P><P>The singer was spotted over the weekend in Los Angeles shooting more scenes from the highly anticipated clip. In one picture, Bieber is seen kissing a dark-haired lady's hand. In addition to getting cozy with the pretty lady, Bieber jumps into a convertible on a set with a few muscle cars.

</P><P>
</P><P>If fans are worried about what girlfriend Selena Gomez might think of Bieber being affectionate with his onscreen co-star, they shouldn't worry. Gomez reportedly stopped by the set to visit her BF, according to <a href="http://www.gossipcop.com/justin-bieber-boyfriend-set-photos-selena-gomez-lookalike-pics-video/" target="_blank">Gossipcop.com</a>, and the pair shared in a few offscreen kisses.
</P><P>
</P><P>Justin has been hard <a href="/news/articles/1683042/justin-bieber-boyfriend-buzz-lightyear.jhtml">at work on his "Boyfriend" video</a> for a while now. And he made it clear to MTV News that despite the song's lyrics, he won't be donning any costumes in the Colin Tilley-directed video. "I won't be dressed up as Buzz Lightyear," he said. "I think there's some copyright issues; I can't use that."
</P><P>
</P><P>The new stills give fans another glimpse of what to expect from the video, which have up until now mostly been teases of the singer in shadow or with only a black backdrop behind him as women put their hands all over him. "The <a href="/news/articles/1682156/justin-bieber-explains-boyfriend-video.jhtml">concept of this video</a>, I mean, it's not like a steady concept," he said back in March. "It's not like 'Justin follows this girl to this spot.' No, it's a bunch of amazing scenes: like a fire scene, we have an ice scene.
</P><P>
</P><P>"It's kind of like bouncing back and forth," he said. "And then there's scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It's fun."

Michael Jackson Lives On In ‘Immortal’ Tour

Cirque du Soleil show pays tribute to late icon with world tour.

By Uptin Saiidi

<P><B>NEWARK, New Jersey</B> — Music, dance and acrobatics combine in celebration of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a>'s iconic life in the "Immortal" World Tour. From trapeze artists to acrobats and even a world-champion pole dancer, guests at the Cirque du Soleil show can expect a high-energy tribute to the legend.
</P><P>
</P><P>The tour stopped for two nights in Newark, New Jersey, this past weekend (its 40th stop) and will open Tuesday night (April 3) at New York's Madison Square Garden, where it will remain through Thursday. From there, it will continue across North America through the summer before heading to Europe in the fall.

</P><P>
</P><P>Having already produced the <a href="http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/love/default.aspx" target="_blank">Beatles "Love" show</a> in Las Vegas, Cirque is no stranger to musical tributes.
</P><P>
</P><P>"Immortal" serves as a sensory explosion that starts on the subdued side and progresses in both spectacle and energy. More than 60 artists perform to 32 songs in a presentation that feels much like a concert with an ensemble of circus-inspired acts elegantly melding together. The stage is two levels with a long peninsula extending into the audience, where the majority of the acrobatics takes place. MJ's famed choreographic style was present in nearly all the numbers, and the audacious task of the performers was well-received by the audience.
</P><P>
</P><P>The progression of the musical numbers moved seamlessly. The energy kicked into high gear with Jackson-like characters performing "Fanatics Medley" as Jackson 5 — one of them in MJ's signature fedora and another as a gold-suited mime. Jackson's youth was remembered in "Childhood" during which a recording of Jackson's voice referred to his early stardom as he sang, "Have you seen my childhood?/ It's been my fate to compensate/ For the childhood I've never known."
</P><P>
</P><P>While the moving screens, elaborate stage designs and detailed costumes were impressive, one of the most awe-inspiring moments was witnessing what the human body is capable of during the pole-dancing number. Felix Cane, a two-time world pole-dancing champion, maneuvered in the sky dancing on a pole — with no harness — appropriately performing to "Dangerous," as the audience was captivated by her every move.
</P><P>
</P><P>Another highlight was "Human Nature," during which the back screens were dominated by Neverland graphics and an image of a young Michael sitting on the moon. In front of the backdrop, a half-dozen artists wrapped in multicolored LED costumes soared through the air in sync, representing the constellations.
</P><P>
</P><P>"Beat It" got the crowd moving while they watched performers in MJ's signature accessories, including his famous glove and penny loafers, dance in dynamic movement. A rock-infused duel between an electric guitar and electric cello capped the song.
</P><P>
</P><P>After an elaborate performance to "Black or White," as the night seemed to be over and the audience slowly started spilling into the aisles, the lights illuminated one last time for an encore to "Man in the Mirror." The artists appeared to take a bow in front of exploding fireworks.

‘Boardwalk Empire’ Season Three Teasers: ‘New Year, New Rules’

Previews suggest that we’re dealing with a very different Nucky Thompson.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t watched season two of “Boardwalk Empire.”

HBO has started to roll out short previews for the upcoming third season of its Prohibition drama “Boardwalk Empire,” and as the first teaser tells us, this is a new year, and there are some new rules.

Suffice it to say, we’re dealing with a very different Nucky Thompson.

The second season’s finale saw ‘s character not so much breaking bad, but finally showing his true colors. Until then, Nucky had been a man who delivered orders and not bullets to the head. The last episode changed everything, however, when Nucky took out his onetime ward, Jimmy Darmody.

In the first of the two new teasers, which feature dialogue from the season premiering this fall but no new footage, we hear Nucky explaining how his plan for the new year has changed. He talks about simplifying things for everyone involved, which we can probably assume means for ruthless business.

The clip closes out with a line that definitely signals that the Nucky we saw in the season two finale is here to stay: “Put a bullet in his f—ing head.” It’s more direct talk than we’re used to hearing from Nucky, but now that we know he is “Not. Seeking. Forgiveness,” this kind of talk isn’t that surprising.

The second teaser examines what’s left of Nucky and Margaret’s relationship after her decision to sign the land over to the church.

We figured that things would not be exactly peachy between the couple, but we’ll have to wait until “Boardwalk Empire” returns in the fall to see just how bad things get.
