<P>Tween dream swagger is all over <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>'s lead <i>Believe</i> single, <a href="/news/articles/1681595/justin-bieber-boyfriend.jhtml">"Boyfriend."</a> Taking several cues from Justin Timberlake's early post-'NSYNC work, the track amps up Bieber's credibility as a teen idol and remixes it with the type of production work longtime pop music fans can appreciate.

</P><P>Lyrically, it sounds a bit silly at times (like when Bieber proposes he and his girl eat fondue by the fire), but Bieber's delivery of the lines proves that at 18, he's willing to take the steps to move forward in the world of pop. Sometimes it seems a little too similar to the way the other Justin delivers lines, but "Boyfriend," co-produced and co-written by Mike Posner, is light-years beyond the sugary sweet "Baby."

</P><P>The song opens pretty sparsely, with just a thumping beat, a "woo" noise and Bieber's sing-songy rap, before a guitar comes in as Bieber makes his plea to win a girl over. The chorus will have girls dancing around thanks to its bumping beat and chugging R&B-influenced instrumentation. He sings, "I could be a gentleman/ Everything you want/ If I was your boyfriend/ I'd never let you go/ I'd never let you go," before rapping, "Tell me what you like."

</P><P>Bieber uses some form of the word "swag" no fewer than four times on the track, including the somewhat perplexing line, "Swag, swag, swag on you." But regardless of what Bieber detractors might have to say, his Beliebers, who have aged right along with their idol, will appreciate his more grown-up sound on the record.

</P><P>The song officially dropped at midnight on Monday. <a href="/news/articles/1680373/justin-bieber-believe-album.jhtml"><i>Believe</i></a> will be released later this year. As for the video, his manager, Scooter Braun, tweeted that it's already in the works.

But her 30th year also proved to be an incredibly successful period in her career.

The competition was heated but in the end, Spears' iconic "I'm a Slave 4 U" took home the prize. While fans are salivating for the chance to see what Rihanna and Drake will be up to in their highly anticipated “Take Care” video, the singer opened up a bit about the clip.

In an interview with Capital FM, the always-feisty Rihanna teased that she recently saw the finished video and it lived up to her expectations.

“I can’t wait to see what all my fans think. I saw it a couple of days ago. I love it,” she said. “It’s beautiful. It’s different from anything Drake has ever done.”

Ri was spotted heading to one of Drake’s shows earlier this week in London when he performed at the O2 arena. Post-show, the twosome were spotted at London hotspot Low. Perhaps she saw the video during their hangout session?

Rihanna and Drake previously appeared together in her video for “What’s My Name?” In the clip, the real-life pals played a lovey-dovey couple, and fans have been waiting to see what these two had in store for the “Take Care” video since February, when word of the shoot went public.

Director Yoann Lemoine called the three-day shoot “very minimal” and “mellow,” adding, “They seemed to be super close, and that’s what I wanted for the video. They fit together pretty well, so it was just easy.

“There’s a lot of space in the video, and I wanted the visuals to pay tribute to that,” he continued. “It pays tribute to nature. When I listened to the track, I was seeing a landscape … involving animals and massive landscapes. I won’t say too much, but it’s very surprising that there are very few elements in it. It’s very simple but there’s this big sense of emptiness in it. It’s not narrative at all, and it involves animals.”

Fan groups respond to one critic’s suggestion that Lawrence’s ‘womanly figure makes a bad fit’ for Katniss.

Fans flooded in droves into movie theaters this weekend to see “The Hunger Games.” In the wake of the highly anticipated release, much of the criticism surrounding the movie has been not about the young stars’ performances, but their appearances.

Most recently there has been criticism of Jennifer Lawrence’s weight, with some sighting that as Katniss, a girl who grew up in a famine-stricken district of a dystopian society, she should have been thinner.

New York Times film critic Manohla Dargis wrote, “A few years ago Ms. Lawrence might have looked hungry enough to play Katniss, but now, at 21, her seductive, womanly figure makes a bad fit for a dystopian fantasy about a people starved into submission.”

The statement is receiving much backlash, considering Lawrence is now a certified movie star that countless young women look up to. Putting aside the negative body-image issues the comment suggests, one wonders whether Dargis is accurate in her assessment of the actress/character disparity? MTV News asked expert “Hunger Games” fans to weigh in. Most had the same message: They loved what Lawrence brought to her character and that the scrutiny is misguided.

“Katniss may not have been as thin or small in stature as depicted in the book, but it’s not unfathomable that her hunting prowess would have allowed her to have some meat on her bones,” TheHob.org’s Gabby Vittoria responded. She went on to point out that “Peeta wasn’t tall in the movie; Clove wasn’t big and brawny; Katniss wasn’t smaller than most of the Tributes. These physical changes certainly didn’t take away from the story and messages in the movie. Besides, for me, Jennifer’s acting and the quality of the film makes her weight a non-issue.”

Many fans not only disagreed with the film critic but were affronted by these reviews of Lawrence. “I’m offended by this critique on so many levels, and honestly, I was shocked that it was ever an issue and that a professional critic would bring it up in the film’s review,” Sara Gundell from the Hunger Games Examiner fan site stated.

This backlash about Lawrence’s weight comes in the wake of the questioning of Rue’s race in the film. The pre-teen is played by Amandla Stenberg, who is African American. In recent days her casting was the subject of racially fueled criticism by a handful of moviegoers who have suffered their own backlash.

Conrad Murray asks judge for a court-appointed attorney to appeal his involuntary manslaughter conviction.

<P>Just weeks after being sent to jail for <a href="/news/articles/1675062/conrad-murray-sentence.jhtml">four years</a> following a conviction on a felony involuntary manslaughter charge in the death of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Michael Jackson</a>, cardiologist Conrad Murray is throwing himself on the mercy of the court.
</P><P>
</P><P>The doctor had been slated to earn up to $150,000 a month to act as Jackson's personal physician before the pop icon's death in June 2009 from an overdose of the Murray-administered surgical anesthetic propofol. But on Tuesday <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/conrad_murray_in_shackles_asks/280479" target="_blank"><I>E! News</I></a> reported that Murray filed a <a href="/news/articles/1675343/conrad-murray-conviction-appeal.jhtml">notice of appeal</a> in Los Angeles Superior Court in which he claimed that he is "indigent and respectfully requests the appointment of counsel on appeal."
</P><P>
</P><P>Murray, 58, is planning to appeal both his conviction and his sentence, but has not yet filed papers with the California Appeals Court. He had hired two lawyers to handle his manslaughter case, but is now seeking attorneys with appeal experience. One of those former lawyers, J. Michael Flanagan, told E! that he was shocked at how his client is being treated in jail.
</P><P>
</P><P>"It is crazy and unbelievable how [the sheriffs] are treating" Murray in jail, said Flanagan, who claimed he waited over an hour to see Murray, who was brought out in handcuffs and leg chains. Flanagan was further shocked to see Murray handcuffed to the table for their meeting, something the lawyer said he'd never seen before in the case of a low-level, non-violent offender.
</P><P>
</P><P>Charles Peckham, who is handling civil cases against Murray, told the <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/doctor-convicted-in-michael-jacksons-death-seeking-court-paid-attorney-for-appeal/2011/12/13/gIQAHIYGsO_story.html" target="_blank"><I>Associated Press</I></a> that his client is under tight security and isolation that is more intense than other inmates at the Los Angeles Men's Central Jail.

</P><P>"Treating him like Hannibal Lecter is offensive," said Peckham. "This man who saved lives made a mistake, and they're going to [make] him pay like a mass-murderer." Sheriff's officials defended the tight security, saying it was for Murray's safety.</p>

Selena Gomez is one lucky lady! With the release of his new single, “Boyfriend,” Justin Bieber is now sharing his own relationship advice, which seems to be working since he and Gomez have been dating for over a year.

“To be a great boyfriend, you just have to have patience,” Bieber told E! News. “You’re always wrong when it comes to girls, you’re always wrong, so just say sorry when things are rough.”

On Bieber’s latest single, he makes all the girls’ hearts melt when he sings, “If I was your boyfriend, never let you go/ Keep you on my arm, girl, you’d never be alone/ I can be a gentleman, anything you want,” but many are wondering if he had Gomez in mind when writing the track.

“No, I mean the song definitely just comes from my heart and whatever that is, whatever is in there,” Justin said. “So, I mean, I’ll never let you go if you’re my girlfriend, I promise.”

It seems like Gomez might be sticking around for a while, then! In an interview with Radio Disney’s “Celebrity Take With Jake,” Bieber may have also revealed the secret as to why their relationship is still going so strong.

“You just have to be honest, that’s the first thing, because if you’re not honest, then the relationship is just not a good relationship,” Bieber said. “At the end of the day, your girl would appreciate you being honest more than lying to her and vice versa.”

It probably doesn’t hurt the relationship when your boyfriend’s idea of a date is to rent out the Staples Center for a private viewing of “Titanic.”

So with Bieber gearing up to release Believe and Gomez hard at work shooting “Spring Breakers,” will these two find time to possibly collaborate on a track?

“I mean, yeah,” Bieber told Billy Bush Tuesday (March 27) on “Access Hollywood Live.” “If it would happen before, it’s going to happen now. There’s no difference. ‘It was the first time you hear an artist from the mainstream singing bachata,’ former Aventura frontman tells MTV News of single ‘Promise.’

Mixing his signature bachata flair with some R&B, he is showing fans a whole new side on his debut album, <i>Formula, Vol. 1.</i>

</P><P>Hoping to spread his unique sound and style to a mainstream audience, Santos enlisted <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lil_wayne/artist.jhtml">Lil Wayne</a> for his latest single, "All Aboard."

</P><P>"This song 'All Aboard,' that tune allowed me to expand and kind of offer my audience something totally different because it's not bachata — I'm singing English and that was really fun," Santos recently told MTV News. "I was a little nervous about that, but people actually really accepted it."
</P><P>
</P><P>Santos and Weezy recently shot the video for "All Aboard" in Miami; he called the clip "sexy," "seductive" and "elegant," but also revealed that this collaboration came very close to not making his album.
</P><P>
</P><P>"I was just like, I like the song but it's missing something, and at first I couldn't figure out what it was," Santos said. "What we did was we left 16 bars open, and I was like, you know, who would rip this track? Lil Wayne. So we reached out. It barely made the album because he's a busy dude, so he actually got on the record two months after we submitted it. It was like, if we don't get his vocals in the next two days we hit, and we got it, so we made it and the song is just really great."

</P><P>Wayne isn't the only artist Santos pulled in for his album. On his last single, "Promise," he teamed up with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a>, who last week joined him onstage at <a href="/news/articles/1678993/romeo-santos-solo-tour.jhtml">Santos' first of three sold-out shows</a> at New York's Madison Square Garden.

</P><P>"I felt at that moment once again I was going to revolutionize bachata 'cause it was the first time that you hear an artist from the mainstream singing bachata," Santos said. "It was a big deal."

HOLY HOOKER!!! *goes back to work*"

</P><P>Like many celebrities, Gaga has used Twitter to forge a closer relationship with her fans as well as make announcements about her career and respond to criticism, as she recently did when British music magazine <i>NME</i> named her hit album <i>Born This Way</i> the <a href="/news/articles/1679839/lady-gaga-most-pretentious-albums-born-this-way.jhtml">Most Pretentious Album Ever</a>.

</P><P>Gaga has been the most followed person on Twitter since August 2010, when she blasted past <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> for the title when she reached 5.6 million followers.

</P><P>Spears now enjoys 13.6 million followers, making her the seventh most-followed person on the network. Currently in third place is Katy Perry with 15.7 million followers. Shakira (14.5 million) and Rihanna (14.5 million) are not far behind.

</P><P>The only person within spitting distance of Gaga on Twitter is <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>. He is, however, a far more prolific tweeter than Gaga; the <a href="http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-lady-gaga-20-million-followers-twitter-20120305,0,4076491.story" target="_blank"><i>Los Angeles Times</i></a> notes that he has sent out 10 times as many tweets as the "Born This Way" diva.

But Mother Monster cannot claim being the boss on Facebook. </P><P>Adding to the stress? "The X Factor" is tackling the songs of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a> on Wednesday night (November 30), on the 29th anniversary of <i>Thriller</i>'s release, no less.
</P><P>
</P><P>One of the contestants is so stressed over the theme he's emerged as a total perfectionist. During Monday's rehearsals, he had already nixed multiple arrangements the show had provided him. "This is the most unprepared I've felt on a Monday," he said to his mentor as they rushed out of Stage 36. There was a camera crew chasing them to capture the drama — as well as the ensuing late-night emergency meeting with the vocal coaches — so don't be surprised if some of this intense footage ends up in your living room. (This afternoon's dress rehearsal went swimmingly, for the record.)

</P><P>Meanwhile, one contestant had a full-on battle with his/her mentor over a chair. The mentor said, "Sit and sing." The contestant said, "Again?! How about I do something on my feet for Michael Jackson week?" Another mentor came to the defense of the contestant. In the end, the contestant is sitting after all. Don't worry, contestant. The eerie arrangement of an MJ classic is what folks are going to be buzzing about. No one will care if you sit or stand. In the control room, I spied one of the bigwigs utter the word "brilliant!" after the contestant's dress rehearsal.

</P><P>Another hot topic: wardrobe! When paying homage to one of the biggest music icons ever, it's tempting for the stylists to include clothing nods to Michael's various looks. But several singers are worried they'll look too much like Jackson impersonators, which has caused many a headache in the wardrobe trailer. But stylist June Ambrose is still able to keep things light in the midst of the drama. While waiting around for a contestant's last-minute fitting, she started an impromptu MJ dance party on the lot. Crotch grabs and "woo" included!

</P><P>Lastly, Paula Abdul's sunny energy has been noticeably absent on the CBS lot now that all her groups have been eliminated. She went from being the most hands-on mentor to an on-set ghost. "The X Factor" family can't wait to welcome her back for her first live show as strictly a judge. What do you think she's been doing with her newfound free time?

<P><b>LOS ANGELES</b> — During the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, <a href="/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a>'s fans have been as much a fixture at the courthouse as the <a href="/news/articles/1675068/conrad-murray-sentencing.jhtml">Jackson family</a>. When <a href="/news/articles/1675062/conrad-murray-sentence.jhtml">Murray was sentenced to four years</a> in jail Tuesday (November 29), MTV News spoke with those loyal fans outside the court to see if the maximum sentence was an apt punishment.

</P><P>"Four years — not enough, but at least something," said one fan, sporting a red jacket in tribute to MJ. "And where I come from, a little something is always better than nothing."
</P><P>
</P><P>One pair of friends might have been wearing matching <i>Thriller</i> T-shirts, but their opinions on Murray's sentence certainly didn't match. "If four years is the maximum and he got the maximum — I know she's not happy, but I'm happy," one of the women said, gesturing to her less-than-pleased companion. "I feel like justice was served and that L.A. can now be proud and stand tall."
</P><P>
</P><P>"It's better than nothing, but it's not even close to justice," said another fan, wearing Jackson's trademark fedora and sequined glove. "Not only was [Murray] negligent; he let the man die. It's unconscionable. He didn't even try. How would a heart doctor not know how to give CPR? It's insane."
</P><P>
</P><P>The cardiologist, who was found guilty of one felony count of involuntary manslaughter November 7, was facing up to four years in state prison in the death of the pop icon, but due to recent changes to alleviate overcrowding in California prisons, the judge in the case said he was unable to send the doctor to state prison for his crime. On top of that, <a href="/news/articles/1675080/conrad-murray-sentence-four-years-experts.jhtml">legal expert Mike Cavalluzzi told MTV News</a> that Murray will likely serve less than half of his four-year sentence.

</P><P>Those legal loopholes concerned a female fan outside the courthouse, but she was also happy that the maximum punishment was doled out.
</P><P>
</P><P>"The only thing I'm worried about now, with the overcrowding of the jails, he might get one year and house arrest," she told MTV News. "I'm just hoping it'll be four years, that's what I'm praying. I'm just glad that justice has been served today, and I'm glad justice can be served to the family and to the fans, and everybody around today will be happy and celebrate that justice has been served. And I'm sure Michael's looking from heaven right now."</p>

<P>The music industry has been stuck in a rut for nearly a decade. But every once in a while, it still manages to produce one of those unstoppable hit albums that give everyone that good old feeling.
</P><P>

</P><P>This year's model is <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a>'s <I>21</I>, which not only sold more copies than any other album in the U.S. in 2011 (more than 5.6 million to date), but which has also moved the most units of any artist since 2004. According to a <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/12/27/us-adele-idUSTRE7BQ10V20111227" target="_blank"><I>Reuters</I> report</a>, those gaudy figures (which top 15 million worldwide) make the British songbird the first artist to cross the 5 million mark in one year since Usher did it with his fourth studio album, <I>Confessions</I>, which sold 7.9 million units more than seven years ago.
</P><P>
</P><P>And to think she did it by releasing just two mega singles, <a href="/news/articles/1675976/adele-rolling-in-the-deep-best-song-2011.jhtml">"Rolling in the Deep"</a> and "Someone Like You," and barely touring North America due to <a href="/news/articles/1674453/adele-throat-surgery-recovery.jhtml">recurring vocal issues.</a>

</P><P>There have been other big hits along the way to Adele's mark, including Eminem selling more than 3.4 million copies of his comeback <I>Recovery</I> album last year and Taylor Swift taking the honors in 2009 with <I>Fearless</I>, which sold 3.2 million copies. But none have come as close to Usher's mark in the interim.
</P><P>
</P><P>There doesn't seem to be any chance Adele will be surpassed by the end of the year: The closest contenders are Lady Gaga's <I>Born This Way</I> (2.08 million) and Michael Bublé's <I>Christmas</I> (2.4 million). The other good news is that overall music sales are expected to be up slightly (3 percent) by the end of this year, marking the first time that's happened since 2004.</p>

</P><P>On Thursday (March 1), the Biebs turned 18 years old, and his most famous friends hooked up with MTV News to celebrate <a href="/news/articles/1680191/justin-bieber-birthday-fan-questions.jhtml">Bieber's birthday</a>. "I hope that you are around all of your loved ones and having a good time. This is from big bro, from the heart," Usher said in a video piece compiled by MTV News for the Biebs.

"Eighteen will give you an opportunity to do a little bit, not all, so we got a few more years before you can go all the way," he said, acknowledging the three years until JB turns 21 and is allowed to legally drink in the U.S. "Maybe I might even be able to sneak you into a club. Anyway dawg, happy birthday. I love you."

</P><P>Comedian Kevin Hart isn't buying all of Justin's birthday hype, though. "Whatever Justin Bieber is supposed to be doing at 18, he was doing at 15," he joked after sending his well wish.

</P><P>Platinum hitmakers RedFoo, B.o.B, Sean Kingston and Flo Rida all helped MTV News celebrate the occasion. Even <a href="/news/articles/1678337/justin-bieber-lil-wayne-studio-visit.jhtml">Lil Wayne, who was with Bieber</a> in the studio in February, sent a special message. "Happy Birthday, slime, the big one-eight. You in the club, slime," Weezy said, standing beside Young Money's Lil Chuckee.

</P><P>As far as birthday presents go, it's anybody's guess what his buddies will actually get Bieber. But Robin Thicke bypassed tradition and instead hit up the "Never Say Never" singer for a loan. "Send me some money, Justin. You got way too much," he said, laughing.

</P><P>But what do you get the young man who has everything? Sometimes all it takes is a few kind words. "Thank you to all the people that made the video," Bieber told MTV News. "It really brought a smile to my face."

In the intimate chat, which took place at Gaga's childhood home in New York City, the never-press-shy Gaga made another big announcement.

</P><P>Gaga's mother was on hand for parts of the interview, sharing that in Gaga's early days, her father thought she had a "screw loose" while she was performing at downtown New York nightclubs in her bra while lighting hairspray on fire. The superstar added that there's one thing about her current act that her mother isn't a big fan of.

</P><P>"She doesn't like when I swear," Gaga said, with her mother adding, "You're effective without it."
</P><P>
</P><P>Another part of the candid chat also focused on Gaga's youth, during which she said she was frequently bullied. "There really is no difference between the bully and the victim," she said. "I would like to do a psychological autopsy on as many bullies and victims as possible … How do we understand what breeds hatred, what breeds anger?"
</P><P>She added that despite all "all the praise you receive, something inside of you is scarred by those experiences. … Sometimes I feel worthless."
</P><P>Parts of the special were also filmed at Harvard University last month.

</P><P>The singer and the talk show host were on hand at the prestigious college to launch Gaga's <a href="/news/articles/1680176/lady-gaga-launches-born-this-way-foundation-harvard.jhtml"><i>Born This Way</i> Foundation</a>.

</P><P>"I just have one thing to say before we get started: We got Oprah! … Thank you from all of us — from my entire team, from my mother, from the bottom of the hearts of so many people who believe in what we're doing today," Gaga said at the launch. She explained that the foundation seeks to empower the youth of America, adding, "How can we inspire young people to know they have the power to be brave?"</p>

Apparently Jessica Simpson’s naked, pregnant body on the cover of April’s Elle magazine has not been well received by those at Safeway supermarkets.

The attention-grabbing photo of Jessica Simpson nude has been covered up with pieces of cardboard and/or turned around, the Arizona Daily Star reports.

A spokeswoman for the grocery chain said it made the move to censor the cover following “multiple complaints” about the Fashion Star mentor’s photo.

Simpson said in an interview that that Demi Moore and Britney Spears-like fully nude, pregnant cover pic was all her idea. Well, and their idea. But in this case:

“They didn’t even ask me to do that,” she said on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show. “It was my idea. It kind of just seemed a natural thing for me to do.”

“I’m like 170 pounds and I wanted to pose nude,” she explained.

“I try to be like 110. It’s funny to be at your heaviest and feel the most confident. I just take such pride in being a mom! I just love my body more than ever now.”
